“When Hope came”
Summary:
David Ragnarsson, a former top investigative journalist, lives in present-day New York City.
After having published a whistle-blower's report about a horrific conspiracy, he had lost his job and is being black-listed. And now when his girlfriend has deserted him and taken their small son away with her, David has become a suicidal alcoholic.
He is prevented from killing himself by a strange teenage girl who calls herself Hope Morgan and claims to come from a time 200 years in the future. She insists that David is her 5-times-removed-great-grandfather. Unfortunately, Hope is only visible to David himself, with the single exception of Jeremy, a war-veteran, who is also being followed around by an invisible being, a little green man.
While Hope sees and experiences the present time through David's eyes and mind, David sees Hope's time through scenes from her memory. But throughout their whole time together David is never quite sure if Hope is real or an illusion of his booze-damaged mind.
The story is mostly about war and its dire consequences. In Hope's world, David's time is known as “the Dark Ages” because of its history of violence. Hope's society--the people of the future--have taken quite radical measures to prevent further wars.
But in spite of all this, still something horrific is lurking in the darkness of Nephilim City, something ready to destroy her whole world. And the only help might come from the most unlikely of places -David's time, the "Dark Ages".
